External Counsel
 

Purpose

The External Counsel is responsible for all legal affairs activities to accomplish the company goals and objectives. The position will report to Vice President and Lead Counsel, Southeast Asia.

Areas of Responsibility

•    Have primary responsibility for all legal matters in GMV including delivery of legal services to functions like sales, marketing, customer care, government relations, operations, finance, HR & manufacturing
•    Engaging with all levels of staff and management
•    Manage and lead strategic legal issues impacting GMV’s business or across the wider organization (i.e., GMC)
•    Work closely with GM Compliance to support GM’s global compliance initiatives including conducting relevant training and providing the lead on matters, issues and questions regarding GM’s code of conduct
•    Assist the business unit, and lead where appropriate, in negotiations with third parties
•    Participate in local/regional/global initiatives/projects as a key member of team or as team leader, as required, to ensure optimum outcomes for GMV including its shareholders
•    Managing strategy for addressing legal risk and identifying and obtaining business inputs
•    Engage and build strong relationships with GMV Leadership, functional leadership and managers
•    Management of the Legal function’s budget
•    Manage company secretarial matters for GMV
•    Maintain a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of GMV’s operations and businesses, 
•    Manage external lawyers to ensure most effective and cost-efficient outcomes for GMV
•    Keep abreast of legislation changes and updates
 

Requirements:

Knowledge:
-    A law degree from a prestigious Vietnamese university
-    Graduate degrees in law from the US would be an advantage
Skills:
-    Good English written and oral communication skills
-    Requires strong analytical and negotiation skills. 
-    Work experience in dealing with all levels of business management
-    Legal writing skills
-    Oral advocacy and counselling skills
